It fills me with great joy and pride to announce that “The Portofino Variations” is out today!
Raymond Scott recorded in 1962 an electronic tune called Portofino. This album has 22 versions of that tune.
A double (!) album on vinyl, cd and digital. (official press release )
For the vinyl release Basta Music let me dive into the Raymond Scott vaults, to search through the Portofino sessions. Raymond Scott did a lot of different versions and we picked 2 previously unreleased versions to clean up and let me do some musical magic to transform them from a mono recording -we had a 2 track with the music on the left, and the final mono mix on the right-, to a pristine 2017 stereo recording. Those 2 tracks are only available on vinyl.
As for cover versions, of course I produced a Schnauzer Radio Orchestra version, but on top of that I mixed Eva Auad’s vocal performance and Davide Rossi’s violin version (Coldplay, Goldfrapp and many more), produced World Champion whistler Geert Chatrou’s version and … drumroll… a minimalistic Rob Geboers version.
